Sketchburgh

Hello again. I like these pages. Haven't looked at them in a while. It is fun to revisit. Let's see. The bottom pages are about shaving your legs. Luckily I am not a very hairy person except on my head. I wonder who the first person was to shave their legs?

The middle pages were painted over a "Lobster Balls" recipe. Anything with "balls" in it makes me laugh. I have a very juvenile sense of humor. This one says "grateful for the company." So it is a little about loneliness too. Maybe this lady baked a ham so people would come over for a visit and maybe she served lobster balls for an appetizer.

The top pages are more about playing with color. I am not a fan of matchy matchy colors (even though the middle pages are all about pink) and like to try unusual combos.

Thanks for looking!

Hey Martha,

I wanted to tell you how cool it was to get to look closely at your sketchbooks last night in class. I liked seeing all of the subtle details. Thanks for bringing them and for posting them here too. They're great!

Mmmmm....balls...
I like the colored grid and all the pinkness.

Hey, so your book arrived today - WOW! It's amazing. Really. I love, love, love it! I don't want to seem like I'm in 3rd grade by using so many exclamation points but, man, you are GOOD! And funny!
And M.Murphy did an incredible job with the printing. The detail is fantastic - love how every little thing shows up. The edges of the stickers, etc... nice.

I thought of a shop that should carry Freedom Wigs - Comic Relief in berkeley. It don't know much about the place, I just popped in a couple of times to look for FW and a yoshitomo nara book, but I don't see them on your list of retailers. It's a comic book store with a large art/zine section and I think your work would fit in perfectly.

I've been peeking at your pages awhile now, they are wonderful, so fun and free, there is a new group that artist Keri Smith has started "Wreck this Journal", you are an inspiration for experimenting with wrecking!
